About the SkillCentre

The Greater Manchester SkillCentre, Trafford Park, is now open. The state-of-the-art 1 million pound investment facility provides vocational education/apprenticeship programmes for 14-19 year olds using new technology and flexible modes of delivery. The SkillCentre embracing our aspirations to improve our quality provision as well as adult and community learning programmes. We have developed partnerships with a number of suppliers and employers to furnish the centre with the latest equipment and materials.

On October 5, David Cameron visited The Conservative Party leader met with trainees from a range of courses such as engineering, joinery, scaffolding and motor vehicle training. Heather Green, Director of Apprenticeships, Mike Riley SkillCentre Manager and Peter Heginbotham OBE, President of Greater Manchester Chamber were also present to offer a full tour of the centre and a look at some of the practical projects the students have been working on. About the SkillCentre

The 37,000sqm facility provides a combination of practical workshops across all occupational areas covering the latest technology and real working environments, training rooms with virtual learning environments, there are designated trade training rooms for bespoke training programmes IT facilities to cover all elements of IT training, staff administration areas, and a joint canteen area.

The SkillCentre is fully flexible in what it offers and when customers can access it.  A range of services including Apprenticeships day release courses, Programme Led, Train to Gain, Adult Apprenticeship, Skills training for young people and adults, taster courses for pre-16 learners and customised in-service training for emploters' workforce.

We currently have nearly 100 learners attending the centre either full-time or on day release programmes.  A full timetable of programmes, short courses and training is due in January.

Our tutors and assessors come from industry and are all time-served and fully qualified.

Recruitment to any of the training programmes is not restricted to traditional school-year and college in-take. Flexible start dates are available through the whole of the year.
