What sort of work is involved?

Bench Joinery: Bench Joiners make doors, windows, door and window frames, staircases and specialised tailor made furniture.  They work predominantly inside and are usually based in a workshop environment.

Bricklaying: A bricklayer plays a vital role in the construction of residential, public and private buildings, with a high level of skill and accuracy.

Carpentry and Joinery: Carpenters and Joiners play a major role in construction.  They prepare, fix and erect many timber components that go into the construction of a building, using very specialised tools.

Mason Pavior: This person carries out paving related operations, including preparing the surface for laying and the cutting of concrete flags, blocks and other materials.

Painting and Decorating: Painters and Decorators can play an important role in the finishing of structural steel and concrete work used in bridges, factories, industrial and commercial buildings. 

Scaffolding: Scaffolders erect and dismantle temporary structures and platforms consisting of metal tubes and fittings that enable building operatives to work at height.  

Shopfitting: A Bench Shop fitter makes the shop fronts and interior fitments, while the Site Shop fitter installs and fixes them on site. Both are highly skilled people who with great care, transform empty premises into fashionable shops, cafes and bars.  

Wall and Floor Tiling: A Wall and Floor Tiler prepares the wall or floor background then cuts and fixes the tiles to the desired pattern. They are highly skilled craftspeople.

Wood Machinist: A Wood Machinist mainly works inside, producing all the timber components ready for assembly by Bench Joiners/ Fitters for the installation by Site Carpenter or Shop Fitters.  

What training is involved?

All Apprenticeship programmes combine accredited training, NVQs, additional basic skills training where required - all carried out as either block or day release training, alongside practical work based skills training and experience.

Note: For all programmes, you must be willing and keen to succeed in your industry, and be willing to travel and work outside in all weather conditions.
